Kim's lookout is where 'Clive Wilson's Specialty Tour' began, in a coastal outpost called Malabar on a tiny island called Lord Howe.
This crescent shaped volcanic remnant sits in the Tasman Sea, between Australia and New Zealand.
With a population of only around 300 people who descended from Whaling families that settled from around 1834, it is a place of astonishing beauty and a world heritage site.
I got the chance to experience this place in 2018 when invited to join my partners parents 50th wedding anniversary.

The field recordings used in this track were captured during a guided tour of the island with legendary elder Clive Wilson. Clive held the office as Harbour Master of Lord Howe Island; his role providing weather conditions and coordination to incoming aircraft was crucial for the island.
This is more than just a sight seeing 'touristy' tour of course - this is a passenger journey in to the natural and human history of the island and surrounding seas.
We heard tales of saving visiting supply ships at night that broke anchor during storms; of preserving a species unique to the island, the flightless Woodhen, which took the islanders several decades to save from near extinction.

Hope you enjoy this snapshot of such a unique place. Included are images from around the island to accompany the track.
